Field trip to Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan
In February 2023, we conducted a field trip to Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan at the invitation of local authorities and companies.
The journey was undertaken under the auspices of our affiliated company Norhydro Asia AS, established in partnership with Rukhsar Hamid and Global Pedlars.
We had very interesting and fruitful meetings with, among others, the Chief Minister of the State Government and the management of the Water & Power Department. We also made site visits to several specific power plant projects.
There is a major shortage of electricity, while the potential for new renewable energy production in the State is large. We consider that the opportunities for the Norwegian power industry are great in terms of participation in the development and operation of new power plants in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Under the auspices of Norhydro Asia AS, we have founded the subsidiary Norhydro (Pvt) Ltd in Pakistan, and hired Country Manager Mohsin Ayub who will be our local manager and contact person.
The plan is now to start development and construction of concrete small hydropower plants and solar power plants in Gilgit-Baltistan. This will be done under the auspices of dedicated Single Purpose Vehicles which will be established together with local stakeholders.
